Malawi Missions TripsAt GCC, we believe short-term missions trips are the ultimate in adult education…and the obvious next step for maturing believers. If you’ve never experienced a short-term mission trip…begin to prepare now! Another mission trip may occur in 2012. Malawi, located in Southeast Africa, is a country about the size of Pennyslvania. The people of Malawi are warm and loving, but have suffered much from famine, disease and economic woes. Currently Malawi is the third poorest nation on earth. Like much of Africa, HIV/AIDS and other diseases have been devastating. At the end of 2007, an estimated 91,000 children in Malawi were living with HIV/AIDS and over a million children are orphans and have no parents to care for them. Malawi/Mozambique Since 2006, GCC has been actively involved in relief and development work in East Africa. Grace Community Church currently has 60 churches in Malawi and Mozambique. Total church participation in East Africa is over 10,000 people with 4 orphan centers over 1500 square kilometers. Kenya The work in Kenya began as a shared dream with Rev. Daniel Nguge, a Kenyan student who attended seminary with Pastor Mike many years ago. In 2006 6 members of GCC spent 2 weeks in the village of Gatanga, Thika District, Kenya helping the village construct what would become Grace Center. Grace Center currently employs 12 people while feeding and educating more than 100 children a day through grade 3. Thika District has some of the highest incidence of HIV/AIDS in all of Kenya. Many of the children we care for are AIDS orphans, who prior to the center, were barely able to find one meal a day. Our students consistently test at a higher learning level than those in public schools. The dream is to grow Grace Center to become a K-12 school providing a world class, accessible, affordable education to develop Christian leaders who will influence the future of Kenya. |
