A HUGE thanks to all who helped the Mobile Soup Kitchen continue to operate by participating in the March Food Drive. It was a great success and the many donations received allowed us to continue serving our neighbors in need while we weathered tough financial times – all the while, hoping and praying for additional federal funds for this ministry.
After nearly 3 months, the Mobile Soup Kitchen ministry team found out this week that they will once again receive the entire Emergency Food and Shelter award allocated for the City of Winchester. In June, 2009, the Mobile Soup Kitchen received over $11,000 in Stimulus money to expand the ministry. With that money, bagged lunches were provided to children at Orchard Crest apartments during the summer, many families received food boxes at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and more than 12,000 meals were served. The 2010 award is just over $17,000 with the possibility of additional funds being available to assist residents of Frederick County.
God continues to provide opportunities to share His love in very real and tangible ways to folks in very bleak situations. The MSK team recently had our first experience serving individuals living in a “tent city” in a wooded area within the city limits. The new EFS funds will be used to expand the number of locations where meals are served each week, provide lunches during the summer and food boxes several times throughout the year at Orchard Crest Apartments, and to find ways to minister within the “tent cities” that populate much of our community.
God is good and has once again blessed the Mobile Soup Kitchen ministry so that we can bless those whom He loves!
